It has now emerged that some of the IEBC officials’ paid Cord leader, Raila Odinga a Sunday visit.
Raila revealed this while addressing his followers during the Monday anti-IEBC protests.
The reason for this meeting was to try and persuade the leader to desist from partaking in the anti-IEBC rallies but Raila turned down the request stating that time for dialogue with the IEBC officials was long overdue.
The leader went ahead to thank Cord supporters as well as Cord members who stuck by him in the Monday demonstrations that are aimed at having the IEBC officials leave office as they are no longer deemed trustworthy by a number of Kenyans.
Monday’s anti-IEBC demonstrations were a different kind in that not many people got hurt as in the past. It was, however, a different case in Kisumu which saw one man killed during the demonstrations.
Raila went ahead to reveal that there was actually an agreement between the Cord officials and President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto concerning the IEBC situation but the two had later denied anything of the sort which Raila termed it as hypocritical.
Speaking at the same event, Bungoma senator, Moses Wetangula advised President Kenyatta to stop heeding the advice of Ruto stating that the deputy president was simply misguiding the president.
He urged President Kenyatta to agree to a sit down with Cord so as to see a way forward for the future of the electoral body.
Cord leaders stated that the demonstrations would continue until IEBC backed down.
