The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced measures being implemented in preparation for the 2017 General Election.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, IEBC Chairman Issack Hassan announced that the team of officials had overhauled its Information Communication Technology department to avoid a repeat of last election's blunder when technology including that of transmission failed.
The electoral body also indicated that it was in the process of setting up a new tallying center to improve vote counting.
According to Hassan, the commission had presented a budget to the parliament that would fund the acquisition of new and more reliable machines to be used during the polls.
The equipment will be tested six months before the date of the elections by all its officials, in an exercise where all political parties will be welcomed to observe.
The electoral boss further stated that IEBC will update the nation on all matters regarding the elections after every one month until the poll's date.
During the conference, the electoral body assured that it was ready to conduct fair polls, urging political leaders to desist from making false and outrageous statements that could incite the public.
Hassan firmly stated that IEBC would not bow to pressure for its commissioners to resign, daring the Opposition to produce any evidence of graft against the officials.
The electoral body was reacting to the relentless calls by CORD leaders for the body to be disbanded prior to next year's elections. The Opposition has vowed to boycott the 2017 polls if their calls are not heeded.
