[PHOTO/the-star.co.ke]The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has appointed French company Safran Identityas the official firm to supply equipment for use in the August 8 polls.
The firm, which was originally called Morpho, was among the vendors that supplied BVR kits used in the 2013 general polls and the only supplier of kits used in the recently concluded mass voter registration.
Unveiling the firm to the public on Friday, IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati said Safran has promised to deliver the Kenya Integrated Management System expected to be used in transmitting the poll results in the statutory timelines.
He added that their decision to choose the firm was because of the need to comply with set legal timelines in the deployment of ICTs before the general election.
"Adequate time is required for configuration, testing, training and deployment for purposes of voter verification exercise by May 10," he said.
He added that the firm had been selected also because there was need for continuity since the commission already has with the firm a maintenance contract for the BVRs over the next three years.
