The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has picked KPMG, as an audit firm to conduct an audit of the voters register ahead of the 2017 general election.
IEBC Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba said the voter register audit exercise starts Friday 16, 2016 and will end on January 18, 2017.
According to Chiloba, recommendations of the audit report will be forwarded to Parliament on February 1st, for debate, approval and implementation.
The audit exercise seeks to identify double registration, names of ghost voters among other issues, in the register that has more than 15 million voters.
Addressing journalists on elections timeline activities in an interactive stakeholder forum, Chiloba noted IEBC targets to register 6 million additional voters early next year, in an exercise that starts January 16 to February 15, 2016.
He called on all Kenyans to support the phase two of the voter registration exercise, to ensure at least 16 million Kenyans are registered as voters during the exercise.
Chiloba further emphasised that nothing will change the elections date, which is slated for August 8.
"Any challenges we have highlighted and shared with stakeholders do not change our focus on August 8th 2017 as the general election day,'' said Chiloba, Friday.
