Nominated Senator Janet Ong’era has slammed the Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission on what she termed as ‘irrational judgments’ that are likely to plunge the country into a state of unrest.

Ong’era’s statement comes few hours after the electoral body dismissed opposition’s plan to change the constitution through a referendum after reportedly failing to collect the required 1 million certified signatures.

Speaking during a Wednesday’s interview, Ong’era accused IEBC of siding with the government to frustrate the opposition’s urge to push for critical reforms.

“IEBC cannot be an arbiter at the moment. They have been giving irrational judgments on critical issues affecting the country,” Ong’era said.

“This commission is out to plunge the country into unrest because they are only serving the government," added Ongera.

"It’s ridiculous that they can purport that out of 1.6 million signatures we had collected for Okoa Kenya it’s only close to 900,000 which are authentic. This commission must be disbanded before we go for polls,” she said.

She also questioned the manner at which the Okoa Kenya’s initiative signatures reached National Assembly Leader of Majority Adan Duale and Johnstone Sakaja.

"To give us an overview that this commission is working with the government to frustrate the opposition, Duale and Sakaja preempted that our signatures were inaccurate and this makes me wonder how they accessed the information before us,” she said.

“This commission has lost moral integrity and its time that they quit office failure to which our country will be in chaos come 2017,” Ong’era said.
