An IEBC presiding officer has committed suicide.

The body of Orenge Nyabicha was found dangling inside his Mukuru kwa Njenga house on Saturday morning.

He is a former sub-editor with The Standard.

According to a postmortem report from City Mortuary, Nyabicha died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Standard reports that after overseeing the elections at Imara Daima polling station, Nyabicha arrived home appearing disturbed.

Police say they broke into his house only to find a jiko he had apparently lit after covering all the ventilation holes.

They also found a suicide note stating that he was taking his life because he was frustrated with "IEBC's failure to deliver a credible, free and fair election".

The letter further stated that there was no possibility of realising change in Kenya and that this therefore forced him to go to heaven so he could be "in the company of Mahatma Gandhi".
