President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed the new chairman and new members of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Kenyatta appointed Wanyonyi Wafula Chebukati as chairman and Ms Consolata Nkatha Bucha Maina, Boya Molu, Dr Roselyn Akombe, Ambassador Dr Paul Kurgat, Ms Margaret Wanjala Mwachanya and Prof Abdi Guliye as members of the IEBC after they were vetted and approved by parliament.
The president’s appointments bring to a close the process of the reconstitution of the electoral agency.
The reconstitution was a bi-partisan process that breathes new life into the electoral body while at the same time restore confidence in its capacity and competence to deliver on its Constitutional and Statutory mandates.
Uhuru nominated and forwarded the seven names to parliament for vetting and approval as required by law on December 19, 2016.
"His Excellency the president congratulated the new IEBC officials and expressed confidence that they will deliver their mandate to the expectation of Kenyans,'' said State House spokesperson, Manoah Esipisu, Wednesday.
Earlier on, Kenyatta met the outgoing nine IEBC officials and thanked them for their service to the nation.
The team was led by former chairman Ahamed Issack Hassan, his deputy Lilian Mahiri-Zaja and commissioner Thomas Letangule.
