Kiminini Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa has said that the recent overhaul of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was born out of street demonstrations carried out by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) political outfit.
Speaking on Tuesday at Citizen TV, Wamalwa said that reforms being undertaken will benefit all Kenyans regardless of their political affiliations.
According to him, the credibility of the next general elections depended on the overhaul of the current IEBC systems and structures.
"The current IEBC reforms born out of the countrywide demonstrations from the Cord coalition. As the country seeks to come up with a new IEBC team, it is only prudent to ensure that the next year's elections are credible," he said.
"The outgoing team has failed Kenyans and they should leave office. We gave them time to deliver but unfortunately they let us down," said Wamalwa.
The opposition organised nationwide protests against the electoral team, compelling the government to constitute a joint Senate-National Assembly committee to initiate reforms at the electoral body.
