The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opposed a move by the Opposition to have a parallel vote tallying in 2017.

NASA leader Raila Odinga had told his supporters during a rally in Kibera that the Opposition will have its structure of counting the votes in real time to curb rigging.

On Monday, IEBC swiftly responded to the proposal dismissing it as unlawful.

The Commission added that it is the only body which has such powers.

““Other actors including political parties shall have access to the results within the framework established by the Commission,” IEBC said in a statement.

It added: “We invite all actors to review the results management framework.”
