The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has given political parties until Sunday this week to make final corrections to their list of candidates.
In a Friday statement by Chairman Wafula Chebukati, IEBC noted that the forwarded lists contained numerous mistakes despite the Commission extending the deadline for submitting the lists.
“The deadline for submission of the candidates was on May 16. This followed an extension of six days to allow parties time to finalise their respective lists. However, the Commission noted a number of issues for concerned parties to address with immediate effect,” Chebukati said.
The issues enumerated by the commission include missing names for running-mates for the presidential and gubernatorial seats, duplicate candidates who appear in more than one party, missing date of birth, missing photos, missing gender information on the candidates, missing national identification numbers, missing party symbols, missing signatures of the party signatories and inconsistency in National ID information.
Chebukati said that the Sunday deadline will allow the Commission to transmit the lists to respective the Returning Officers on Monday.
“The interim report of candidates shall be published on the Commission’s website before close of business today,” the statement further reads.
