The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEB) has dispelled allegations by Cord, that IEBC is frustrating implementation of the Electoral Laws (Amendment) Act, 2016.

IEBC termed as false and misinformed, the claims issued by Cord co-conveners Senators Johnston Muthama, James Orengo and MP Eseli Simiyu, on Tuesday afternoon.

They said Jubilee was working with ex-IEBC Commissioners led by Ahamed Issack Hassan, to postpone the August 8, 2017 polls.

"To the contrary, the Commission is committed to the realization of the new election law and nothing better can demonstrate this commitment than the steps it has taken to implement," said IEBC.

In a quick rejoinder on the same day, the Commission said calls that it postpones its operations was tantamount to blowing the start and stop whistle concurrently snce Cord had a high level participation in the drafting of the new law.

"The new law, which came into effect o October, 4, 2016, has time-lines that IEBC would be breaking if it did not observe," said IEBC.

In a statement, IEBC noted it has a constitutional mandate to organize and deliver free, fair and credible elections, given that Kenyans are aware that elections are on August 8, 2017.

"Our Election Operation Plan, has, and will remain trained on August 8th 2017 General Election date. We must remain steadfast and resilient, as a country, to ensure that we have peaceful and credible elections come 2017. "

The Commission further urged the political class to exercise restraint in its utterances especially on sensitive political processes.
