The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on Friday announced that the by-election for Kitui West Constituency will be held on March 28, 2018.
The electoral board acknowledged that it was preparing to hold the by-election to replace Francis Nyenze who passed on in December.
IEBC notified all the political parties to bring forward the names of their candidates and the party primary date to the commission for planning.
All independent candidates intending to take place in the by-election should have been members of a political party by 23rd September 2017.
Earlier in December, Charity Ngilu the Kitui Governor and Kitui Woman Representatives Irene Kasalu endorsed Mrs Edith Faith Nyenze for her late husband's seat.
"We all elected Mwanzia Wa Nyenze to Parliament but who campaigned for him? It was Mama Faith and that is why I will rally behind her and ask all of you to give her that seat." Kauwi MCA Jane Mutua stated.
