Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang'ula has pleaded with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to extend the voter registration deadline saying the turnout has been low.
The Bungoma Senator pointed at "poor sensitisation" by the commission for the low turnout of citizens in the exercise that ends on Tuesday.
''The IEBC intended to register more people but has only managed 2.1 million. We are appealing to them to extend the period for more people to register and participate in electing leaders of their choice,'' he said.
Wetangula added that the commission must ensure that no eligible voter is locked out because of failing to beat the deadline.
However, IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati has said that there will be no extension of the deadline as the commission needed more time to clean up the register.
