The electoral body in Kenya, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been attacked for what has been termed as lack of credibility and integrity.
The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has been in the forefront calling for the disbandment of the electoral body with their weekly demonstrations.
The demonstrations have however led to political tensions in the country with people harbouring mistrust and hatred against each other.
What people should understand is that engaging in demonstrations will not solve anything at all. If the country engages in political fights, then IEBC should not be the scapegoat.
There are many forms of solving disputes that can be used other than holding demonstrations. However political leaders are still engaging in political tussles over the matter and with the current trend, the country can engage in ethnical warfare.
The country burned down in 2007 and the electoral body of that time, Electoral Commission Kenya (ECK) was blamed entirely for the skirmishes.
This should not be the case right now. IEBC should not be blamed in case of any skirmishes after the 2017 general elections.
The leaders should embrace other means of solving the issue. In case of any skirmishes, then the leaders will be held accountable.
