Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka had expressed fears that Independent electoral and boundary commission IEBC is not willing to conduct the referendum dubbed 'Okoa Kenya' just because it was being confronted by opposition.
His fears were confirmed earlier this week when IEBC announced that Okoa Kenya initiative did not meet the threshold number of signatures to warrant a referendum.
It claimed that out of the 1.6 million signatures that were presented by opposition, only 891,598 were authentic. This leaves around 708,402 inauthentic signatures.
This number is too huge. It is such like absurd utterances and exaggerated figures that make IEBC not credible.
It is true the referendum was going to be expensive and it would have caused a lot of confusion given the fact that the country is a few months away from a general election, but scuttling democratic processes using petty reasons is not the way to go.
For IEBC to remain credible, it should remain as independent as its name.
