The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is facing a fresh legal hurdle after being petitioned again at the High Court.
This is after activist Gladwell Otieno petitioned the High Court to compel the electoral agency to open the voters’ register before the August 8 poll.
The activist asked the court to order IEBC
to publish and open this register for public inspection
as clustered in every polling station.
She told the court that as it is today, the register has many inconsistencies over the numbers IEBC declared as the actual population of registered voters.
Also in her demands, the founder and Executive Director of Africog wants the court to stop the commission from deploying the voters’ register for the elections before it is inspected by the public.
She also wants IEBC to be stopped from distributing the register to its returning officers intil the case is heard and determined.
“The continued non-observance of the provisions of the law by the Chebukati-led commission constitutes a threat to the rights and freedoms to have a free and fair election,” she said.
