In a statement, the IEBC commissioners led by Isaak Hassan are expected to head to Parliament on Thursday this week to respond to questions from the legislators. However, the IEBC's operations manager, Ezra Chiloba on Tuesday expected to meet members of the parliamentary committee to clarify on the commission's activities.

The developments come at a time when the church council of Kenya (NCCK) and the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) joined Cord in their demands to eject the IEBC commissioners from office. The opposition has made a public call that the current commissioners at the electoral agency should vacate office prior to the 2017 elections.

Constitutionally, the IEBC commissioners shall only be removed from office through an amendment by the national legislators. As Ahmednassir Abdullahi noted, the IEBC is a constitutionally created commission and the only way they can be ousted from office is by following due constitutional amendments.
