The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) intends to register at least six million new voters in its second mass voter registration exercise, that will kick off Monday January 16.
The Commission's Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba told Journalists that they were targeting young Kenyans who recently acquired national ID cards.
He disclosed that the commission would use 7,793 Biometric Voter Registration kits for the exercise, which is a rise from 5,776 kits used in the previous voter listing exercise, that will be deployed countrywide at the ward level.
Addressing the press, Monday, Chiloba said Kenyans would use a manual system to vote in the August 8, polls, but tallying and voter transmission would be done in an electronic manner.
"As usual, voters will pick voting papers manually and vote for whoever they want. We will also count votes manually from the polling stations. But transmitting the figures of the votes, will be done electronically,'' he said in Nairobi.
He further indicated that the commission intends to have a provisional register printed by March 15 and will be opened for verification by April 10.
Chiloba called on all Kenyans who were yet to register as voters to do so, given that their will be enough materials that will be distributed according to the geographical structures of each word.
