Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati has said the commission will be participating in community development at the county level.
Chebukati said IEBC has a role to play in the society besides conducting general elections.
Addressing the press at Makueni IEBC offices on Saturday, Chebukati said the commission with work with local communities across the country to gain citizens' trust.
He said the commission will conduct civic education and improve the capacity of all IEBC county officers in a bid to improve service delivery.
“Kenyans won't have to know there's an electoral body after five years when there's an election, NO the commission's staff will be working with the local communities, Community Based Organizations to gain more trust with Kenyans," Chebukati said.
“We are doing a county outreach tour so that we can identify the challenges and address them, we have so far visited 10 counties,” he added.
Chebukati said the commission will conduct public participation exercises across the country before increasing the number of constituencies.
“We will collect views on the issue of increasing the number of constituencies since the process is people-driven," he said.
