Kenyan electoral body IEBC has ascertained that politicians found guilty of disgorging hate speech remarks will be blocked from participating in next year’s general elections.
IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba on Wednesday warned that IEBC was working with the NCIC commission to fold evidence alongside all ‘hate mongers’ to warrant they were barred from holding political office.
‘We are cooperating with NCIC, which deals with hate speech. We are working together to get data on cases of hate speech,’ he stated.
The CEO further revealed that it was also working closely with the EACC to measure the integrity issues touching various leaders before determining on whether they would vie for various positions in the coming polls.
Chiloba quantified that there were plans to examine individuals fascinated in competing for political posts.
‘We are at work with EACC for truthfulness and there is a conversation over vetting of candidates,’ the IEBC officer added.
Contrary to preceding polls in which contributors only occupied forms announcing themselves fit for public office, guidelines are being passed to make it obligatory for leaders to obtain certificates before being allowed to vie.
This comes when several legislators are facing distinct accounts of hate speech accusations raising questions over whether they are appropriate for public office.
