The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is expected to conduct a by-election for the Msalani Ward seat in Garissa County.

The election in the ward was postponed following the demise of Ibrahim Abdullahi Muktar.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate died on Wednesday, July 5, after he was involved in a tragic road accident.

Different candidates have expressed their interest in the seat following the death of the politician who was aligned to Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga.

The contest is expected to re-ignite the rivalry between Jubilee and ODM after Uhuru was declared the winner of the rerun that was held on Ocotber 26.

Raila has however asked aspirants aligned to his political party to boycott the by-election.

The electoral commission is also expected to conduct a by-election in Bogichora Ward in Nyamira and Kitutu Chache South Parliamentary seat.

In a gazette notice issue by the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, the by-election will be conducted in the three regions on the same day.

The commission has assured aspirants and voters of its preparedness to conduct a free and fair election.
