The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has urged candidates eyeing various elective positions as well as other stakeholders to help in educating Kenyans on the need to participate in the upcoming general elections.
IEBC Uasin Gishu County Returning officer Jacktone Nyonje said the commission can not be able to effectively conduct voter education without the help of other stakeholders.
Speaking to the press at his office in Kenmosa village, Eldoret town, Monday, Nyonje said they have been conducting voter education across the county and expect the activities to be intensified as the August 8th date draws nearer.
"We have constituency voter educators up to the ward level disseminating relevant message the public need to know as well as county level. We also have caravans in town and the activities will be intensified as time goes by," said Nyonje.
"Voter education is supposed to be collective kind of a thing and you cannot rely solely on IEBC. This is why I want to make a passionate appeal for candidates and other people to join into this activities and educate the public to know the importance if participating in an electoral process," he added.
Nyonje further challenged all eligible voters to ensure they exercise their constitutional right on August 8 saying, "don't allow another person to elect a leader for you. It's your responsibility."
