Chebukati pointed out that all areas where the voting exercise experiences heavy technical hitches will see the election postponed to a later date.
He said they are monitoring the progress on the ground and that a comprehensive update will be provided and the exercise goes on countrywide.
“We are monitoring the situation and as a commission we will update the country about the challenges you are talking about," he said."The law allows a presiding officer to postpone an election in such circumstances. We shall receive such updates and make a decision," he added.
Speaking over fears that some areas would not conduct the election because appointments of Returning Officers had been nullified by the High Court, Chebukati said the vote would not be stopped by the ruling.
He argued that most of the said officers were IEBC permanent staff who did not require to go through the regular vetting and that they had been gazetted prior to August 8.
