The troubles within the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) might have come as a blessing in disguise.
According to Midrift human rights network executive director Joseph Omondi, the troubles bedeviling the IEBC presents the country with a golden opportunity to put things in order and reconstitute the body four years ahead of the 2022 general elections.
“This is a golden opportunity for the country to create an IEBC four years a head of the general elections,” he said
He added: “In the past we have hurriedly formed the IEBC few months to the polls and this has been one of the many problems the commission faces because they don’t have enough time to orient with the commissions working environment and systems.”
Omondi added that having the commission in place early will give the commissioners enough time to plan, learn and prepare for the general elections.
This, he says, will help in dealing with some of the electioneering mistakes the country has witnessed in the past.
