Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader Alfred Mutua has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to bar politicians engaging in hate speech from contesting.
Mutua who was speaking during the party’s aspirants meeting at Kasarani Stadium indoor arena stated that his party advocates for peace and justice.
“Voters should also be free to exercise their constitutional rights by voting for the leaders of their choice,” said Mutua.
He said that the responsible politicians should not be allowed to contest in the polls since they were polarising the whole country.
“Some of these politicians are making utterances that may lead to the build up of electoral violence,” said Mutua.
He urged the electoral body to put in place mechanisms to deal with incitement among politicians.
“We are an independent party with our own agenda. We are in the hearts of the people and share their hopes and aspirations,” said Mutua.
