The MP says that intensive voter awareness will prevent voter apathy in the next month general election.

Addressing supporters in Yatta town on Saturday, the MP said that 80 per cent of voters has no information on the procedures to follow on the election day.

He warned voters are likely to make costly mistakes that could affect the election if they are not educated and sensitized properly.

“The IEBC needs to move with speed and conduct thorough voter awareness to educate voters on the election process and how they will conduct themselves during the voting day,” he said as quoted by the People Daily.

The MP also asked the IEBC and other state agencies to educate voters on the electoral offenses that are punishable under the Election Act and the election code of conduct.

Mwangangi further urged the Wafula Chebukati led commission to involve stakeholders in its activities to avoid suspicions.

He said that Kenyans are counting on IEBC to deliver fair and credible general election.

Meanwhile, the Yatta legislator has asked the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and the acting Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang’i  to beef up security across the country.

Mwangangi said that law enforcement agencies must work around the clock and guarantee Kenyans safety before, during and after the polls.

He said that instances of insecurity being reported in some parts of the country are causing fear among Kenyans with only days left to the August 8 general election.
