The problems that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) continues to encounter are self-made.

Veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho has said that IEBC is a victim of its own unpreparedness and should not blame anyone in case Kenya it is unable to deliver elections on August 8.

Gaitho speaking on Citizen TV's Cheche Show on Wednesday morning also absolved Nasa from claims that its numerous court cases were distracting IEBC from concentrating with election preparations.

"If IEBC had done the right thing and followed the law in all its processes what we are witnessing now could not be happening. Their own bungling of the procurement of voting materials and many other unprocedural decisions they have taken before have brought us where we are today," said Gaitho.

He noted that it all started with the 'bungled procurement of the BVR kits' where IEBC went for direct procurement which to him was the exact scenario in 2013 which culminated to the failing of the same kits on the election day.

On ballot papers, he says IEBC delayed for no good reason 'only to rush during the last minute' to single-source the Al-Ghurair printer 'claiming' they had no time.

"If IEBC had not bungled processes all way through, we would be sitting comfortably waiting for the election day. It is not the case now. The political class isn't to blame, IEBC is," he said.
