The Iebc has warned politicians against zoning the country into strongholds saying the move was causing unnecessary political tension. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has now cautioned politicians against earmarking the country into 'strongholds'.
Commissioner Roselyn Akombe on Sunday said the zoning was creating unnecessary pressure in the country and could be behind the heightened political intolerance being witnessed in the campaign trails today.
" We are warning politicians against demarcating regions into so called strobgholds because that is what is generating tension in such areas.Kenya belongs to all of us and no one should be barred to campaign in an area just because they are not popular in such areas," she said.
This is not the first time the commission is issuing such a directive having done so three months ago.
The country has for the past one week been treated to ugly scenes with politicians being heckled.
Deputu president William Ruto was a week ago jeered in Kisumu and Homa Bay while opposition leader Raila Odinga had his fair share of crowd trouble in parts of Baringo and Kiambu counties.
