Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said it is ready for a petition challenging the October 26 repeat presidential election.

Through its top lawyer Kamau Karori, the commission insisted it was ready to defend its position in the Supreme Court.

"We are putting our documents together so that in the event a petition is filed, we are ready," Karori told The Nation.

IEBC conducted the poll amid calls by the Opposition's NASA coalition to postpone the fresh election ordered by the Supreme Court.

A group of observers- under umbrella Kura Yangu, Sauti Yangu- have claimed October 26 election was marred by irregularities and illegalities even more serious than in the nullified August 8 election.

The top court annulled the poll citing massive 'irregularities and illegalities' in the electoral process.

During the hearing of the petition filed by NASA, IEBC lawyers fumbled when asked about stray ballots, security features on result forms and access to servers.

Pundits were of the feeling that the commission lost the case because it was unable to explain itself.
