The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has denied claims that it failed to act over reports of illegal campaigns in Nandi Hills during the August 8 general elections.

While testifying at the Eldoret High Court in an election petition challenging Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter's win, the constituency returning officer Peter Resa said nobody notified him, in writing, over the alleged illegal campaigns.

The petitioner in the case Bernard Kitur had accused IEBC of failing to stop Keter from campaigning past the stipulated period.

He claimed Keter illegally campaigned on 6th and 7th in August, a move he argues that it swayed voters in his favor.

"The petitioner called me over this issue and I told him to write a formal complaint which he never did and from there I assumed there was no complaint," Resa told the court on Thursday.

"I am also not aware that there was a candidate who was bribing voters," he added.

In the petition, Keter has also accused voter bribery, allegations he denied while testifying on Wednesday.

All the five witnesses in the case have now testified and the court ordered that parties involved files their final submissions within seven days.

"Submissions should not exceed 15 pages in 1.5 line spacing on font 12. Soft copies should also be submitted to the court," directed Justice George Kimondo who is hearing the case.

The case will be mentioned on January 31, 2018, where parties will be allowed to highlight key issues in their final submissions before a date for the ruling is set.
