Eight presidential candidates have been given the green light by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vie for the country’s top job in the August 8 polls.

The Wafula Chebukati-led commission cleared three candidates on Sunday while five were cleared, Monday.

He assured the candidates that the commission will conduct a “free, fair and transparent election.”

He further urged the aspirants to conduct their campaigns peacefully, warning that any candidate who violates the Electoral Code of Conduct would face the law.

“We expect that you keep within the guidelines and regulations within the code of conduct. We want you to maintain peace as you campaign,” said Chebukati.

The eight hopefuls cleared are President Uhuru Kenyatta (Jubilee), Raila Odinga (ODM), Dr. Ekuru Aukot (Thirdway Alliance), Abduba Dida (ARC), Cyrus Jirongo (UDP) and independent candidates Joe Nyagah, Prof Michael Wainanina and Japhet Kaluyu.
