Now a business owner and most sought after camera man, Joe Wainaina continues to work hard day and night strategising and delivering quality work to his clients.

He shared quite candidly how barely in his twenties he has managed to serve such a high profile client base, travel widely and establish a studio from his savings.

“As a professional trained in camera work in journalism, I wanted to make it working at a media house delivering news and feature stories, but this was not to be. The work environment was difficult, flooded with journalists and it was difficult to get a footing,” he said.

Luckily, Wainaina connected with a church member in Kabuku area in Limuru whom he realised they had much in common than just attending the same church.

“This man became my friend and mentor,” he says.

He owned a studio and would do camera work for big corporates including big ones like Coca Cola. He allowed me to learn and thrive by sending me to shoot documentaries, commercials, music and stories and within no time, I was an expert.

He also taught me how to edit. He also paid for my work quite handsomely, and I invested in good quality cameras that take still pictures and videos, not forgetting good computers and other tools of the trade.

“I am working to equip my studio fully and give opportunities to upcoming artists to record their music and videos, to produce high quality work that will sell internationally,” said Wainaina.
