The old adage goes; if the deal is too good, think twice. But for the residents around Naivasha region and the entire Nakuru County, if the meat tastes too strange, think twice.
This follows the recent upsurge of cases involving donkey meat that has been ending up in the mouths of unsuspecting consumers.
Barely a week ago, the public stormed a hideout suspected to have been operational for a long time, where donkeys are slaughtered, prepared and packed for transport to other regions.
In a region that recently hit the headlines for being the home to the first donkey abattoir in Kenya at a cost of Sh15 million, maybe to some of residents, it is not strange as it is to those outside the region.
This, maybe, was a vivid explanation behind the mysterious disappearance of donkeys in the area, leaving everyone wondering how much the ‘transport sector’ will be affected in the event that these animals treasured for their hard work continue to dwindle.
Barely two months ago, rumours had it that a popular joint along the Naivasha-Nakuru highway, known for its mouthwatering delicacies, was slaughtering monkeys and selling the meat to the innocent diners.
These animals are in plenty around that area making it easy for the perpetrators to plan for the day’s catch.
The old adage says; if you want to eat a hyena, convince yourself that it has never eaten a human being.
Well, this is too hard in this case considering that goats, bulls and other ‘edible’ sources of proteins are in plenty too.
For those behind these heinous acts, if you want people to try new tastes, make it clear to them and distinguish the types from beef, pork, and mutton and classify these under ‘others’ so we can prepare our taste buds for a strange weird delicacy.
