Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet has urged the public to remain vigilant due to "real terror threats facing the country."
Boinnet has assured Kenyans of tight security measures during the festive season adding that adequate security personnel has been deployed to various parts of the country.
The IG said that terrorism threats remain a reality and urged the public to be vigilant “particularly in places with high concentration of people” which include beaches, restaurants and clubs as well as places of worship.
"Any suspicious persons or activities should be reported promptly to the police," he said.
“From past experience, it is also a period that comes with considerable security challenges. As the National Police Service, we are committed to ensure that all Kenyans enjoy the festivities in the most peaceful and secure environment possible,” Boinnet said in a statement issued by his Spokesman George Kinoti.
He urged the public to utilize the police emergency numbers 999, 911 or 112 in the event of any security threat.
