Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has denied claims that Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Kisauni MP Rashid Bedzimba, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and several MCAs were arrested on Friday night.
Boinnet said the leaders were at the Urban Police Station to question the arrest of their ally.
This comes barely a week after Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi's security detail was withdrawn.
The outspoken governor, however, rejected the officers after they were reinstated on Tuesday following security reorganisation at the Coast.
Coast Regional coordinator Nelson Marwa warned against politicising the issue, saying police have a right to reorganise security details of all senior leaders.
Marwa further accused the duo of recruiting ex-military security officials to cause chaos during the 2017 polls.
