Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe on Saturday came face to face with the glaring reality of city slum brewers when he visited Mathare.

Igathe was captured on camera staring across the Nairobi River where boiling drums of chang’aa were hidden away from police officers.

The unfazed youths who were brewing the illicit drink could only stare at the unfamiliar guests at the black riverbank that was overflowing with sewage.

This can only mean one thing: Igathe and his boss have a huge task ahead of them.

They need to quickly device a way to help curb such dangerous brewing while at the same time ensuring that the youths and all those involved do not run in to the desperation of joblessness.
