Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe announced his resignation on Friday, January 12, 2018.

Citing frustrations and failure to win Governor Mike Sonko's trust, Igathe quoted January 31 as the day his resignation would be effective.

Since then, over a week ago, Igathe has not stepped into his City Hall office.

This has led to social media reports that Sonko has locked the door to his deputy's office and fired the secretary.

But contrary to the reports, Igathe's office is still running and complete with staff.

According to Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU) vice chairman Hussein Wafula, who visited the office on Friday, operations are running normally and smoothly.

"I came in as early as 8am and found Igathe's office fully operational. That is just online propaganda," Wafula was quoted by the Standard.

Igathe's secretary, identified as Margaret, told the local daily she has not been fired and the office was operational.

"My job doesn't change; it remains the same whether the deputy governor is present or not. I would urge Nairobians to remain calm and ignore social media reports because we are working," she said.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Nairobi that you want Hivisasa to cover?
