As the Luhya community is trying to unite ahead of the 2017 polls, a politician from the region has urged residents to rally behind COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli's effort to consolidate unity in the area.
Moses Nandalwe an aspirant for the Sirisia parliamentary seat is among leaders who are in support of the initiative.
According toNandalwe, Luhya unity will increase their bargaining power stating that the quest for the region's unity is the noblest thing.
"Since the demise of Vice President Wamalwa Kijana, the community has lacked a dignified leader to unite them," said Nandalwe while addressing the press at a Nairobi hotel on Sunday.
The aspirant was quick to defend Atwoli from criticism that he has a preferred presidential candidate.
"Atwoli can decide to enjoy his wealth and pretend all is well. We should respect him. He is doing this for us and the future generations," he added.
Nandalwe also dismissed claims the trade unionist is a Jubilee 'project' who is trying to auction the community.
