A section of leaders from Kisii have faulted Interior Cs Fred Matiang’i for blaming local chiefs on the increased insecurity in the region.
The leaders led by Nyaribari Masaba MP Ezekiel Machogu stated that Matiang’i should be blamed for the insecurity being experienced in the region.
"He should stop blaming local chiefs for the ever increasing cases linked to insecurity. A chief is not armed but police officers are," he said.
He dismissed threats by the interior CS that he will send some chiefs away saying it was not real.
He asked chiefs to work well and not to feel threatened by the CS.
“Chiefs should ignore Matiang’i and work. Unnecessary pressure on chiefs will not help in ending insecurity," he said.
The CS should instead ensure that more police officers are deployed to the region.
Ms Rachel Otundo, a Kisii based politician said Matiang'i should stop harassing chiefs who are working within their powers to end brewing of illicit liquor.
"Let the CS deploy experienced police officers to the region ans help in fighting crime," she said.
