Voters in Eastern region have been assured of their safety during and after the fresh election set for Thursday, October 26, 2017.

Area Regional Commissioner Wycliffe Ogallo told residents to ignore threats by politicians, saying they have beefed up security for voters, election officials and the voting materials.

"We shall not compromise our role of providing security to voters who will come out to exercise their constitutional mandate. We have beefed up security for IEBC officials and electoral materials," he said, speaking in Embu after meeting with regional chiefs.

Ogallo said the vast region compromising of Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Moyale, Marsabit, Embu and Meru was safe.

The Commissioner warned that stern actions would be taken against anyone intending to interfere with voting.

On Tuesday, NASA leaders led by Raila Odinga toured Ukambani and urged locals to boycott the election.

Local leaders led by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu vowed to ensure no voting takes place in the region that is perceived as an Opposition stronghold.
