On Tuesday the locals said some officers from Igonga administration police post have been going round the villages demanding bribes from kiosk and shop owners claiming that they are protecting the businesses, especially during the night.

“The officers have been going round homes asking for bribes. This is unacceptable and should stop before we demonstrate to push for their removal from this area,” said a resident who requested for anonymity.

The residents asked area police boss Nichol Omondi to investigate some of his junior officers.

“The same officers should be blamed for increased illicit brews in the region because they are colluding with illicit brew dealers to make and sell alcohol,” said a boda-boda operator only identified as Mogendi.
