Speaking to journalists in Ijara Town on Monday, the MP said that the Friday attack on Qarsi Primary School shows how vulnerable the region is to terrorists.

Noor said that the attack has caused fear among teachers and other residents across the region.

“The national government should quickly boost security surveillance across North Eastern and guarantee locals especially teachers and other state workers  of their safety,” she said.

Noor noted that terrorism remains a challenge in the region, adding that the government has to devise new tactics to effectively deal with terror militants.

She also asked locals to work with security agencies as they fight crime and terrorism.

The  Ijara Constituency lawmaker  said that adoption of Nyumba Kumi remains a challenge in the Northern region.

Suspected Al-Shabaab terror militants attacked Qarsi primary school in Wajir county killing two teachers and a local on Friday morning.

North Eastern region coordinator Mohamed Saleh says that security has since been heightened across the county and the Northern region.

On Saturday, teacher's Unions (KNUT and KUPPET) condemned the attack asking the government to boost security or have their teacher’s withdrawn from the region.

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) ambassador Amina Mohamed has since assured teachers working in volatile areas across the country of their safety.

Mohamed says that her ministry is working closely with state security agencies to guarantee safety of teachers and students across the country.
