Ijara MP Sophia Noor has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure that women are equally represented in his Cabinet.
Speaking to journalists in Ijara Town on Saturday, the MP asked Uhuru not to sideline women as he restructures his government in terms of appointments.
She said that the constitution is clear on representation, adding that it will be an honor if the president includes more women in government positions.
While lamenting exclusion of women in the partial cabinet changes announced on Friday, the Ijara lawmaker said that women have rights to equal representation.
"Our plea to president Uhuru Kenyatta as women is for him to ensure that we are equally represente in the cabinet and other government positions ," she said.
The Ijara lawmaker said that the country will realize it's development agenda if women are involved in top decision making.
She urged women to be alert and fight for their rights as provided for in the constitution.
President Kenyatta made partial cabinet changes on Friday last week as women cried foul for being excluded.
President Kenyatta retained only six Cabinet Secretaries with the fate of 13 CSs remaining unknown.
Uhuru also nominated former Turkana senator John.Munyes, former Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani and outgoing Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko to cabinet.
President Kenyatta's changes have ellicted mixed reactions as he restructures his government to serve his second and last term.
