Residents of Gaciriciri Village in Kamondo, Ikinu Ward in Kiambu County on Thursday went on rampage over compensation for their land, allegedly taken by the Athi Water Services.
The residents, who were drawn from more than 35 households, told journalists that the company had promised to compensate them in full for the amount they had agreed.
They however say that since they surrendered their land to the company, it has only compensated them to a tune of 75 percent of the agreed amount each.
“This is the fourth year now since we signed that agreement and it has reached a stage that it is like we are soothing them to give us what is ours,” said Patrick Mwaura.
They have vowed not to let the company take their land before it settles the amount they agreed in full.
“They should take their tractors away because there is no activity that will take place here. The promise they made to us must be met,” said Wanja Muiru.
They also want Kiambu Governor William Kabogo to intervene and help them with the predicament.
“We want the Governor to ask these people why they have no respect for property,” added Jorum Mbugua.
The company intends to build modern dam on the land.
