The Ikinu Youth Group has launched a clean-up activity to clean the Ikinu trading centre and their homes.
Speaking after launching the drive, Peter Ndegwa, the chairman of the group said that the objective of the drive was to make the youth busy during the December holiday.
“The drive intends to involve the youth to contribute to the clean-up of our centre, homes and conservation of environment,” said Ndegwa.
He said that many crimes are committed during the December holidays and there is need to empower the youth to contribute to the welfare of the society.
Ndegwa added: “We do not want our youth to be indulged in crimes and drug abuse. Instead, they should be occupied by activities that contribute to a better society.”
He said that the youth would collect the garbage at a fee to sustain themselves.
“The residents have agreed to support the initiative by providing cash once the service is offered. Youth without jobs should join the initiative and work together to uplift the standards of cleanliness in our areas,” said Ndegwa.
He called on the jobless youth to join the group and get transformed and asked the local leaders to initiate more development agendas to help the youth generate income.
“Our leaders should focus on increasing development initiatives to youth to make them self -reliant and avoid them from being involved in social evils,” said Ndegwa.
He urged the county government to increase the allocation to the youth kitty to enable them realise their dreams and contribute to the growth of economy.
