The government has been criticised over laxity following a series of unprecedented attacks against residents of Ikonge region in Nyamira County.
According to the residents, a group of gangsters has been coordinating a series of attacks against residents that have led to the deaths of two people in the last two weeks.
On Monday, they held an emergency meeting that aimed at seeking the solution to the menace in which they blamed the government for their predicament.
“It is really disappointing that we can lose two people in a record period of two weeks with a government in place," said Mbaka Mochere on behalf of the residents.
"The group is coordinating the attacks and the aim is not yet known because they are not targeting properties. The government has basically failed to secure us and we need an urgent solution to this.”
They urged the government to deploy security personnel that will man the region at all times besides calling for imposing of a night curfew.
“We don’t have to go to streets to let the government know that we are angry but it is quite in order that we demand deployment of a number of officers in the region at the same time ask for imposing of a curfew till normalcy is achieved,” he added.
Area chief Ben Moranga admitted of the insecurity but insisted that the government had arrested three people for questioning.
“I am aware of the crime but you cannot say that we are not working at all. We arrested three people recently and they are in the Nyamira police facing interrogation,” he said.
