Police in Bondo have impounded a consignment of illicit liquor and export cigarettes valued at Sh100,000 at a business premise located at Wichlum beach in Bondo.
Acting on a tip-off by members of the public, police raided a business premise belonging to a suspected drug peddler in the area on Saturday.
The suspect managed to flee leaving behind his wife.
During the raid, police confiscated 27 cartons off illegal Waragi brand liquor packed in sachets and seventy-two dozens of Supermatch export cigarettes believed to be from Uganda.
Bondo OCPD Paul Kiarie who spearheaded the raid said the wife will appear in court on Monday to answer charges of possessing contraband goods.
Kiarie disclosed that illicit liquor trade was rife in Bondo town and neighbouring trading centres adding that police will do everything to arrest individuals involved in the illegal trade.
He said that most criminal incidences and lose of lives in the region are linked to consumption of illicit liquor stating that it is the responsibility of everyone to ensure the trade is curbed.
Two weeks ago, a 72-year-old woman who is a notorious drug peddler and a jailbird was arrested at the same beach with a consignment of bhang and the police say they intend to height security at the beach which is the entry point of drugs into the region.
