In an interview with the People Daily, Waiguru said she is ready to put to test her own mettle against seasoned politicians in the race to occupy the county's top seat.

Waiguru exuded confidence that she will floor her competitors including her role model, Narc-Kenya's party leader Martha Karua.

“Martha Karua is not my problem, I think I will beat her and beat her properly. She does not present a threat to me at all. I think her time in Kirinyaga leadership passed a long time ago,” says Waiguru.

The former powerful CS said Karua was making a wrong decision by vying for the governorship position saying it lowers her stature, having vied for the presidential seat in 2013 polls.

“I think Martha has been in politics for a long time. She has made the way for us. But for her to run for a governor’s post, I think this is a wrong choice," she remarked.

Waiguru disputed reports that during a recent tour of Kirinyaga county, Deputy President William Ruto pledged Jubilee support for Karua on condition she ditched her Narc-Kenya party.

“Ruto was acting as a peacemaker trying to console Karua, but not throwing Jubilee support behind her,” she noted.

The former CS is expected to battle for the county top seat with Karua, the incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi, former Cabinet Minister Njeru Githae, Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari and businessman Bedan Kagai.
