Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has threatened to send Governor Hassan Joho to jail if elected the county boss in the forthcoming August polls.Omar said he will take legal action against Joho and county officials in his administration over the alleged Sh300 million Mombasa garbage collection tender.Addressing journalists on Wednesday, the Senator claimed the money for the project has been embezzled by Joho and his accomplices who are yet to be prosecuted.“Accountability is key in any leadership position you hold as a leader and therefore within my first 100 days in office, I know the first people I will prosecute. All those who are involved in the garbage tendering and procurement processes will go to jail,” said Omar, as quoted by the People Daily.Omar, who has declared interest in the governor race, questioned why the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and other relevant agencies have not prosecuted Joho.“EACC which is mandated with the fight against graft have let the public down as millions of shillings are being misappropriated in Mombasa county,” he said. The Wiper Party Secretary General promised to lead a corruption free administration if elected the second governor of Mombasa. In January, Omar accused Joho of fraudulently awarding the Sh300 million garbage collection project to his close allies.“The county government irregularly allocated the contract for collection of garbage through single-sourcing, in contravention of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Law, to a company whose directors are believed to be close confidants of the governor,” said Omar.
