Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has criticised Governor Evans Kidero’s administration saying the county government will not stop his efforts to clean up the city.

Last week on Tuesday, Sonko claimed members of the Sonko Rescue Team he instructed to clean up parts of Eastleigh, were disrupted by officers from the county government who had been told the cleaners were unauthorised garbage collectors.“The Sonko Rescue Team has been involved in garbage collection in a number of city estates. I would like to publicly admit that indeed it is true my team is conducting an operation dubbed ‘Operation Ngarisha Jiji’ aimed at making sure all our estates and slums are cleaned up and restored back to their lost glory.”“However, we have never at any one time dumped garbage in any of the city estates or by road side. I have hereby attached evidence including the city county dumping receipts to prove that we adhere to the laws relating to collection and dumping of garbage.”“I wish to confirm that my team has been taking the collected garbage to the Dandora dump site using our trucks. Let us not politicise this noble idea aimed at improving the environment.”According to the Senator the county government officials had been told his team of waste collectors, were dumping garbage at the roadside.Sonko is expected to square it out with Kidero for the seat of Nairobi governor during the August 8 election. The flamboyant Senator has constantly accused Kidero of failing to transform the city by cleaning up garbage, lighting up informal settlements as well as modernising key roads to solve traffic jam problems. In 2016 when Kidero appeared before Senate’s Public Accounts Committee to shade light on questionable county expenditures, the two city leaders almost fought after Sonko accused Kidero of apportioning himself prime land in the city. Kidero refuted the claims.
